Ohakune: The Southern Gateway to Tongariro National Park. The Ski Capital Of New Zealand.
Although best known for the skiing and snowboarding that goes on there, Ohakune is also the home of "The Big Carrot" thats correct folks, you read me right; while other places have stautues of a Stag or a Kiwi or even a Trout, Ohakune has a stautue of a massive big orange Carrot, with a green top and all, to signafy that Ohakune is the carrot gowing Capital of New Zealand.
Although that is true, as I am standing here telling you all this I was actually going to tell you about the pubs in Ohakune, they have a really nice pub, well probably more than one, but one very pub on the way into town.
No-one has ever told me this, and I have never been there, but heck, every New Zealand Town has a pub somewhere near the edge of the town, so I bet Ohakune has on too and I bet it a really nice friendly one, they always are, those pubs on the way into town...see that where all the farmers go, and they are always friendly.
Well I couldn't let you think the only thing I knew about the place was that it had a big carrot now could I(I saw that on TV once, a doco about the carrot, obviously it made an impression)....
