A B&B homestay in a quiet country township an hour south of the National Park and just a few mintues from the very popular Vinegar Hill Campground, famous for its New Years Gay celebrations!
Aside from the proximity to the Mt. Ruapehu ski fields and the Gravity Canyon bungy jumping spot, there's plenty of interesting attractions in the township. Some of these are a art gallery in a old church, a cafe in an elevated DC 3 aircraft, walking tracks along the old rail line, a frightening flying fox, and river rafting adventures.

Sounds like a nice place to lay your head for a day or two of exploring.
